It may not seem obvious, but men need encouragement. Men may try to look all tough, like they can handle any situation that life throws at us. But honestly, men need some reassuring words just like everyone else.
The Bible is not only full of encouraging verses. It also outlines the roles of men. For instance, Adam was placed in the garden of Eden to work. Joshua was a man who leads his family to worship the Lord. Paul stresses that every man should love their wife just as Jesus loves the church. And that they should provide for their families.
Prayer: Lord, I dedicate this man that comes seeking encouragement from you. That you may renew his strength and lead him in your paths of righteousness. Amen.
Let's now take a look at 45 encouraging Bible verses that every man should read:
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Christians should conduct themselves like strong soldiers, on guard, as they watch for the return of their Lord.
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Peter quoted Proverbs 3:34 to illustrate the humility required in our relationship with God.
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
Paul compares both physical and spiritual development as they share some similarities. In each, growth happens upon exertion and proper feeding.
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Timothy was young, thus vulnerable to youth errors, which most times draw the justified criticism of those older. To tackle this, Paul called Timothy to lead a life that was so godly that no person would despise his youth.
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
Paul addresses why we should not lose heart by pointing out that we may be suffering or taking a beating on the outside, but the Lord is a blessing and renewing us on the inside.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
We should not give up laboring for the Lord even if we do not get praise or encouragement because the Lord will remember our work and love at the resurrection.
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
All of God's education begins with humility. We cannot be teachable if we are not humble. Next, we should be dependent on the Lord.
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
Paul's first goal was to please God and not to please men. He declined to shape his message that it may please his audience. He was keen on pleasing God.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
This scripture shows the importance of the word of God is working and transforming a Christian.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James stresses confession to one another in the body of Christ because sin wants to isolate us from others. Confession breaks this power.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua's success largely depended on the Lord's presence being with him.
And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
This verse was Jesus' response to a lawyer who had tested Him by asking what he should do to inherit eternal life.
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
In this passage, the prophet Micah portrayed an imagined courtroom where God proved His case against Israel, who had afflicted themselves because of their sins.
The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
The greatest gift that parents can give their children is for the parents to be righteous and walk in integrity. This walk creates a home and atmosphere that becomes a blessing to the children.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
This scripture encourages walking together in mutual concern for each other's trials, temptations, and infirmities.
A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength. For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Solomon realized that there is strength in wisdom but that the power in knowledge also relies on others' wisdom.
Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
We often want to excuse our particular tempting situations to be unique or exceptional. This scripture reminds us that this is not so. God has promised to limit all temptation that comes our way according to our ability to overcome it.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
The idea here is that earthly treasure does not last but will fade away, but heavenly treasure lasts forever.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Paul urges the Roman Christians to present their will at God's altar as a living sacrifice to keep their body in check.
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Neglecting fellowship often leads to discouragement, especially where God's people are not encouraging one another. We should therefore gather as believers to encourage someone who is going through a rough patch.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
James urges Christians not to give in to wrath because it does not lead to the righteousness of God. Instead, it seeks to promote our agenda.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
The apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to continue these things as the Bible makes one complete and completely equipped to do every good work.
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. God calls us to be fighters and fight the good fight of faith, where we may occasionally lose, but we should carry on until we get to eternal life.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Peter encourages Christians to remain watchful and sober because the devil walks about. To conquer him, Peter urges Christians to resist, that is, stand against the devil.
But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Jesus stresses that humble service is the only prerequisite, as displayed by His ministry.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
This scripture contrasts the lives of the righteous and the ungodly.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
Even though the author of this psalm is not stated in the title, he is believed to be King David. This psalm is thought to have been sung during the second temple-Ezra 3:10-11, where they attributed it to David.
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
This verse is the longest psalm in the Psalms and also the longest chapter in the Bible.
And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
This scripture shows that work is good for man and was part of Adam's perfect existence even before the fall.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
James regards trials as inevitable. However, they shouldn't be causes for resignation but occasions for joy.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua realized that as the priest of his family, he was responsible for his family serving the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Jesus' love towards the church should be a template for the Christian husband's devotion to his wife.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.
David wrote this psalm in his older years, where he gives wisdom in the form of a song.
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
Paul emphasizes the responsibility of the man in his family, which is to provide for his family.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
By waiting upon the Lord, our strength grows.
A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
We may have the ability to plan as we can, but we should never think that this gives us full control over our lives. The Lord directs our steps.
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Moses was a man of encouragement to Joshua as he knew that Joshua might become wavering. He encouraged him to be more than he possibly thought he could be.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
The children of God have no reason to be afraid of the Antichrist because they have a resource for victory, the indwelling of Jesus in them.
Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
This verse is a psalm of David and depicts David, the son of Jesse, crying out once again to the Lord while praising Him for heeding his prayer.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
This verse was a psalm by the sons of Korah, who were Levites, from the family of Kohath.
Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.
David delivered this verse to Asaph. He thanked the Lord when the ark of the covenant was brought to Jerusalem.
Men need inspiration, strength, and comfort, especially in times of need. As priests of their families and the Lord expecting much of them, you can see why a man should be strong in the Lord. I pray that you shall always draw on the Word at all times. I pray that you have the guidance and to be in reliance of the Lord. And that His blessings will be upon you. Amen
