Some days, it feels impossible to get out of bed. The depression is so deep it makes it hard to praise the Lord.
In the Psalm of David, there are many moments where he wanted to give up. He was in such a bottomless pit that he felt even God had abandoned him.
David wrote in Psalm 13 how to overcome the feelings of despair:
How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? forever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him, and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
In his darkest moments, David was still worshipping God. He can give praise to our God even when He felt abandoned. David trusts the word of God and knows that God is worthy to be praised. David knows that he can sing to the Lord because God is the rock of our salvation.
